Greetings and Salutations!

Well, we're gearing up for what promises to be quite an evening this Thursday night. PI will be opening, and we haven't seen them play live since our show together last fall so we're looking forward to seeing what they have been up to for the past several months. Most of the Street Legal/China Blue/Flyin Zion folks who usually turn out in droves for our shows are double booked so we're expecting the crowd to be a little thinner than usual, but whoever does show up is in for a real treat, as we're premiering several new songs and bringing new arrangements to some older ones as well. Plus they will get a sneak preview of the new, Meldrum-augmented line-up in action -- which, if our rehearsals have been any indication, promises to be very cool indeed.

Speaking of new line-ups, it's now official: Daryn has joined Jupiter! We had our first rehearsal at Ray Opheikens's place last night, and things are definitely looking up for my until-recently-semi-defunct day gig. We played, joked, played, joked, played, had dinner and played some more. We're all very excited about it, though with the initial 100+ songlist added to his already considerable workload learning dozens of SoN and Pink Floyd tunes, Daryn is starting to worry that his head might fly apart if he has to cram any more music in there. The next Jupiter gig is a wedding on August 2, then we start hitting the clubs again. Stay tuned...

I took a bike ride over to Tim's house yesterday, just to see if I could do it. Between the more festive occasion that was Jupiter rehearsal and Tim answering his door in a bemused quasi-panic that some sort of band business had slipped his mind, it was a reminder to me that I need to make it a point to socialize more often with the rest of the SONS. My position in this band tends to drag me in the direction of all-business-all-the-time, whereas in Jupiter I don't have any real leadership role so I can just lay back and be part of the gang for the most part. Perhaps some cross-pollenation in my approach would be as beneficial as the more recent cross-pollenation of personnel has been.

At Tim's place, I picked up some photos from the last FloydShow, which I have been waiting to get my hands on for a few weeks. Some pretty cool stuff; I'll see if I can get a few of them scanned and uploaded to the site shortly. I was actually pretty startled at the way I looked in some of them. Earlier this year I finally got my act together health-wise and have so far lost a little over 50lbs. I'm still not exactly Mr Svelte -- and perhaps I never will be -- but I've definitely downshifted from the dangerously overweight level, which feels fantastic. I also recently had my hair chopped off after a decade of wearing it down below my shoulders, and the novelty of those two changes in my appearance hasn't quite worn off on me doesn't jive with the mental picture I still carry in my head most of the time.

See you Thursday!
