Headline: Happy New Year -- and Thanks!
Greetings and Salutations!
2011 was a pretty active year for SON, despite the relatively little time we spent playing shows and the even less time we spent talking about them. The bulk of our energy was employed in finally getting Green & Grey out into the world after too many delays, and now that the pressure of finishing a such large project is off our backs, we're looking forward to a new year filled with adventures just as exciting, but hopefully more frequent and less...er, all-consuming.
As I've said many times, no band is an island, and we are profoundly grateful to know who our friends are. None of our activities this year would have been possible without the help of many amazingly talented and supportive folks, such as:
John Flanders, Marie Estrada, Mike Thiriot, Tommy Maras, David Slack, and Patrick McGrath all brought their musical firepower to the stage with us at various shows this year, and it was glorious. Each one of these folks is a pleasure to work with and brilliant at what they do, and we can't wait to see them all again in the coming year.
John, Marie, and Mike also made fantastic musical contributions to Green & Grey, along with David Geiselmayr and Daryn Campbell. And speaking of the album, there's simply no way we would have been able to release it on time and in as good of shape if not for Robbie Rist and Andru Davies letting me make use of their studio gear for a few last-minute overdubs, and Chris Jackson's awesome art design, which tied the whole thing together beautifully.
Also on the graphics tip, our official web site is currently receiving a facelift, and we have Joni DeRouchie to thank for the cool new look and streamlined re-organization that will be unveiled soon. Amy Allred volunteered to design a nifty new EPK that will also make its debut with the re-launch. Our friend Doran "Fozz" Barton continues his technological wizardry on the functional end of all things web, and will be digging through his video archives for material to post to the new SON YouTube channel, which we hope to have up and running in short order.
On the gig front, Troy Fillmore and Ray Opheikens have been absolutely indispensable to our continued work in Utah, from booking and media to staging and gear. Tireless badasses, the both of 'em. A special thanks goes out to our friend Nanci Sauder-Ruest, who made our California debut this year a reality (and a blast!), and the all great bands we've been lucky to share bills with, including Melodramus, Roll The Bones, Cirkus, and Werewolf Afro.
Last but certainly not least, thanks to everyone who bought the album, came to the shows, listened with your lives attached, and spread the word. Whether you've been with us for the whole strange trip or just came on board recently, we could not be more flattered by your presence or appreciative of your patronage. Like the man says, without you there is no us.
And with that, I'm off to spend the New Year's festivities with family and friends.
Roll on 2012!
